Facial Animation - Eye and Eyebrow Extremes

Lipsync - Eye and Eyebrows Extremes from NoahGeeCG on Vimeo.

In today's Maya session I've just added the key poses for the eye and eyebrow movement. I also spoke to Alan about my premise project, which I will be posting about promptly :).

Predator Lip Sync - Fixed Visemes

Predator Lipsync - Fixed Visemes from NoahGeeCG on Vimeo.

Today I cleaned up my visemes and some of my jaw bounce animation from last week. There were a few visemes that were too over exaggerated or the timing was slightly off, hopefully, this looks a little better!

Facial Animation - Added Visemes

In today's class, I cleaned up my jaw bounce animation and added visemes to give the mouth a little more movement. Next week I will be applying the phonemes that I made for my phoneme library to add more character and animation to the lipsync.

Facial Animation - Predator Jaw Bounce with Full Audio Clip

I've finished the jaw bounce animation for next week. It looks like I've got some 'machine gun chatter' in the middle part of the lipsync, which I'll try and tweak in the next Maya session.

Facial Animation - Predator Lip Sync First Playblast

This week I created a pose library, a great way to store poses to use in the future. I learned that this is very useful when creating lipsync animations. I also started animating a lipsync animation to a sound clip that Alan gave us. I only added a jaw bounce so that next week, I can add the phonemes. Below is what I have so far, but I will carry on adding a jaw bounce to the rest of the sound clip so I can carry on animating next week.

Facial Animation - First Playblast

Below is my first attempt at creating some facial animation using a reference. I was wondering why my animation looked so lumpy and I discovered much later on that I had forgotten to change the character set to 'face_A' instead of  'No Character Set'. Slightly frustrating. I'll try to fix this for next week's Maya session.

Working From Realistic Reference - Tweaked Animation

Today I carried on tweaking my Charlie Chaplin animation. I had to look at the graph editor to clean up some of the jittery/ quick movements in the previous playblast I uploaded. I'm a little happier with how the animation is coming along, but I still need to wrap my head around the wrist movements in the reference video and the slightly awkward movements in my animation when the character is sliding down the pole.

Working From Realistic Reference

We've moved on from weightlifting to Charlie Chaplin, and working from a realistic reference. Below is a playblast of some rough animation I did using MooM. I used a clip of Charlie Chaplin as reference. It needs a lot of tweaking and a few more in-between poses to sort out the jittery hands/wrists and the body movements when the character is sliding down the pole.

Cleaned Up Weightlifting Animation

This week I cleaned up my weightlifting animation. I had an issue with the hands last week, they looked very jittery due to adding too many key frames to try and fix the barbell moving in weird directions in MooM's Hand. I discovered that adding more and more key frames is not they way to go.... it actually just made things much worse. So, instead I deleted unnecessary key frames and then cleaned up the animation in the Graph Editor and parented the barbell to the right hand control. After cleaning up and tweaking the poses a little, I'm a lot happier with how the animation looks. Cleaned Up Weightlifting Animation from noah greenhalgh on Vimeo.

Maya Weightlifting - Added Barbell

In today's class we looked at staggering key frames and also adding a weight to the animation. I tweaked my animation a little by moving the pelvis forward and the hands a little closer to the body. However, when I added the barbell to the scene, I realized how wrong the positioning of the hands were. I tried my best to fix this but this made my timeline a little chaotic and the hands are now very shaky, so I may just remove the animation I have done for the hands and start again, unless there is a less time consuming way to do this? I'm not happy with how rough the animation looks right now.

Moom - Facial Animation

Moom - Facial Animation from noah greenhalgh on Vimeo.

This is the first facial animation playblast I have made using the Moom model. I think the movement is a little dead in the beginning and end of the playblast so I would like to add some subtle movements, but I'm not sure how to do this without the movement looking unnatural. I also think the timing of the movement where Moom transitions from the sad to surprised face could be quicker.

Maya Weightlifting Playblast

Weightlifting Animation Playblast from noah greenhalgh on Vimeo.

Here is my first playblast fo my weightlifting animation. I need to tweak a few things like the animation on the left arm of Moom and also the timing of the animation.

Pre-Viz Crane Shot

Crane Shot from noah greenhalgh on Vimeo.

The crane shot allows you to move on a fixed axis, like the dolly shot, however, the crane shot can move vertically as well. This scene showing a woman on a balcony and then panning down to a man on the ground is a fitting example to show how the crane shot can be used to show characters at different heights.

Pre-Viz Dolly Rig Shot

By using a dolly rig, I could move the camera along a fixed axis. I found that the dolly shot was slightly similar to the pan shot, however, the dolly allows more dramatic shots to be created.
